Diana Aviv is the founding CEO of The Partnership for American Democracy, launched in 2021. The Partnership serves as the collaborative nerve center that attracts and directs greater attention, energy, and resources to accelerate existing and new efforts to strengthen democracy in America. The Partnership brings together diverse sectors, leaders, everyday Americans and organizations spanning the ideological and demographic spectrum committed to protecting and renewing our democracy. Diana also recently launched a parallel initiative called ourCovenant, whose mission is building and deepening partnerships with communities of faith, in particular, conservative communities of faith, in support of democracy.
One of the leading non-profit executives in the United States, Diana served as the CEO of Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the U.S. In partnership with 200 foodbanks, Feeding America has provided almost 5 billion meals to 46 million Americans. Immediately prior to her work with Feeding America, Diana served for 12 years as the President and CEO of Independent Sector, the umbrella network linking local, national and global foundations, nonprofits, corporations and individuals working to improve the world.
Earlier in her career, Diana was the director of a domestic violence agency where she developed the first program of its kind to work both with the victims of domestic violence and their abusers. She was frequently called upon as an expert witness in criminal cases where perpetrators potentially were facing the death penalty. From there she went on to work for the national Jewish community as the vice-president for public policy in the Washington Office of the Jewish Federations of North America. In that capacity, she worked closely with Members of Congress and the Administration, helping to shape legislation and policies intended to empower individuals and communities
Diana grew up in South Africa where she earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. She earned an MA from Columbia University in New York.
