Good to Know – Finding the Melody: Jazz Appreciation

Good to Know – Finding the Melody: Jazz Appreciation

February 26, 2023
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Do you enjoy listening to Jazz, but feel that you don’t always “get it”?  Wish you could name some Jazz musicians other than Duke Ellington?  If you like Jazz (or think you might like it), but want to understand and enjoy it more, then then you are invited to Paul Feldman’s upcoming “Good to Know” sessions on Jazz appreciation, starting this Sunday February 26th (and continuing March 12th and 19th)  from 3-5 pm at Adat Shalom.  We will listen to classic Jazz recordings and explore the role of improvisation, the sound of the Blues, and the impact of World Music (including Jewish music) on Jazz.  And, we will have fun!

Here’s Paul’s background:  I have had a passion for Jazz, as a listener, player, student and teacher, for over 45 years.  I studied Jazz saxophone and theory at Columbia University, and at New York City’s Jazzmobile.   I also studied Jazz History with Ron Carter (the bass player in one of Miles Davis’ most famous quintets) at City College of New York.  I taught an expanded version of these sessions as a “Finding the Melody” course at the District of Columbia JCC for many years.

So, if this sounds good to you, please join us next Sunday.   Here’s a link to register:
