Tisha b’Av

Tisha b’Av the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av, on which a series of Jewish tragedies took place, notably the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE and the destruction of the Second Temple 656 years later, in 70 CE.  If you need a refresher on the basics of the day, click here for this informative article from Tablet Magazine.

Adat Shalom offers 2 ways to commemorate the holiday:

1. In Person at Adat Shalom, on Wednesday, July 26 at 8PM.  Rabbi Hazzan Emerita Rachel will offer a teaching followed by the chanting of the book of Eicha (Lamentations) by Rav Rachel, Kevin Teichman, Larry Goldsmith. David Sieradzki, and others.

2.  On Line with a consortium of other Reconstructionist Synagogues including the Society for the Advancement of Judaism (NYC), Or Haneshamah (Ottawa ON), and Kehillath Shalom (Long Island NY), via Zoom.  Register here.
