Teachers: Haya Laufer & Luther Jett
Co-Sponsored by the Israel Connection Committee and the Jewish Studies Committee
via Zoom only.
Each session will be two hours.
For this two-session class, we’ll examine and discuss two works by Israeli authors.
First, we’ll discuss Dov Alfon’s suspense novel, “A Long Night in Paris” [Laila Aroch b’Paris , Kinneret 2016; English Translation by Daniella Zamir, MacLehose Press, 2019]. Set in Israel and Paris, this thriller provides a timely perspective on high-level governmental corruption and international intrigue.
Then, in May, we’ll look at Sami Michael’s “A Trumpet in the Wadi” [Am Oved Publishers 1987; English translation by Yael Lotan, Simon & Schuster, 2003]. Set in Haifa, during the months preceding the 1982 conflict in Lebanon, the book tells the story of two Christian Arab sisters living in the Arab quarter, whose lives are changed when a Russian emigre moves into their building.
