Sara, a member of Adat Shalom since 2022, is a bioethicist who has worked in the Federal government for more than 25 years to promote the ethical conduct of biomedical research. Drawing upon our country’s shameful history of exploitation in research, Sara will build a case for why it is both essential and timely to include Indigenous Peoples in our efforts to reckon with and repair the harms resulting from a system built on oppression and white supremacy.

Reconstructing Judaism, through its Tikkun Olam Commission, recently voted to approve a resolution calling for a national reckoning in the United States through reparations for both African Americans and Indigenous People in North America. This program is offered as part of Adat Shalom’s commitment to heed this call by engaging in ongoing learning and deep reflection on the ways in which we have participated in or benefitted from racial injustices in our community.
