Becoming Bat and Bar Mitzvah is an important rite of passage--and at the same time, a mere milestone in a journey which begins many years beforehand, and continues for the rest of our lives. Adat Shalom strives to maintain that balance, ensuring a special celebration within its larger communal and personal context.
In the years and months before a simcha, member families are encouraged to re-read the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Guidelines in their entirety--these can deepen your thinking, while summarizing the community's expectations. Prospective members with elementary-aged children should also read these well, especially section III.
Also, make sure to check for any relevant materials on the B'nai Mitzvah Documents page.
