Marla Cohen joined Adat Shalom staff August 2015 as our executive director. She is a third-generation Jewish community builder hailing from Denver, Colorado. “Everything I learned, I learned at my parent’s kitchen table...and summer camp.” Marla
She brings more than 20 years of leadership experience to this position, including serving as a Hillel director in Santa Cruz, CA; day camp director at the JCC in Seattle, Washington and synagogue executive director at B’Nai Havurah (Reconstructionist) in Colorado, and most recently at Kane Street Synagogue in Brooklyn, NY. Her Jewish journey includes studying at Brovender’s Yeshiva in Jerusalem for nine months and serving as a madricha for Livnot U’Lehibanot in Safed, Israel, in the mid-80s. Marla graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, with a degree in Jewish history.

Marla is married to Salvador Mandry. 

Marla and Salvador are delighted to be making their home in Rockville, Md., and joining the congregation. Marla reminds us (and it is supposed to be our practice) to please wear your name tags during Shabbat; it helps!

IdanSharon 

Idan (ee-DAN) will be with us as a full-time staff member for the year, bringing his special gifts to our Torah School as a Hebrew teacher and Kitah Hey (5th grade) classroom teacher, our youth program as an advisor, as well as our adult Jewish Studies program, with a special focus on Israel education, but fanning out in many different directions.

Rabbi Jane graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 2005. She attended the University of Michigan for both undergraduate and graduate studies where she received a Master’s in Social Work and a certificateRabbi Berman portrait in Jewish Communal Service. Rabbi Jane worked with Hillel at the Claremont Colleges and Eastern Michigan University, and served as Rabbi to Temple Beth El in
Hammonton, N.J.

She studied Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. Rabbi Jane is a Board Certified Chaplain and has specialized training in Jewish Pastoral Care. She has worked for years with Jewish Social Service Agency and is currently a hospital staff chaplain.

Rabbi Jane is married to Adam Diamond and is blessed with three incredible children Mira, Galya and Raphael.

Administrative Staff

SarahWessonsmlSarah Wesson, Executive Assistant. Sarah provides administrative support to Rabbi Fred and Hazzan/Rabbi Rachel; serves as the B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator with Hazzan/Rabbi Rachel; and maintains the website as Communications Coordinator, along with myriad other opportunities to support the congregation.   Sarah is in the process of completing her Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Northeastern University. Before joining Adat Shalom, Sarah was working at another congregation coordinating youth engagement activities for kids in grades K-6. marciwilsonsmlMarcie Wilson, Systems Administrator, is a 20 year resident of Washington originally from Overland Park Kansas. She is responsible for the day to day operations of the Torah School and Adat Shalom’s IT infrastructure. Marcie’s background includes; working at B’nai B’rith International for 15 years and working for Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and School. At both of these positions, she used her organizational and project management skills, in addition to her background in Information Technology to advance the missions and goals of each organization. She is excited to once again be working within the Jewish Community and to continue to work for the advancement of childhood education. In her spare time, Marcie is an avid foodie who likes to explore cuisines from around the world, travel and spend quiet time at home with her husband, their two cats and their Dachshund, Chloe.
