Creative Arts

MISSION STATEMENT

To encourage and coordinate creative expressions (across the visual/decorative arts, drama, music, writing, movement, and more) by and for Adat Shalom members that reflect and enhance Jewish historical, cultural, and religious experiences.

"Without the arts, there can be no Jewish civilization." Mordechai Kaplan

POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES

Showcasing the work and performance of Adat Shalom members; art shows of members' work; performance of plays, music and/or dance at religious services; workshops in Jewish decorative arts, creative movement, music, writing, and poetry; working in the Torah School in Creative Arts; offering a D'var Chinuch on the Creative Arts in Judaism; exploring artistic expressions of our varied heritage; etc.

COORDINATION WITH OTHER COMMITTEES AND STAFF

The Creative Arts Committee cooperates with and supports activities of the following:

Creative Arts - Jane Handler, Chair; Shelley Sadowsky, Vice Chair

This year the Creative Arts Committee is offering programs based on a Yiddish culture theme. We are planning programs on Yiddish film, press, songs, literature, poetry, theater, family stories about life in Eastern Europe, and a Klezmer dance party. We are also sponsoring a post-Megillah reading party on Purim and, as usual, our salons. The purpose of the salons is to invite members with artistic talent to perform in other members' homes for small groups who come to enjoy music, art, poetry, and literature in an intimate setting. Congregants are encouraged to attend our programs.

If you are interested in helping with any of these programs, or in performing, please contact:

Jane Handler, Chair; or
Shelley Sadowsky, Vice Chair
